Clay Harbor had to leave 'The Bachelorette' after a group date football injury

Every time “The Bachelorette” fires up another season, there’s usually at least one NFL player competing with 25-30 other guys to win the heart of the titular bachelorette. The latest season’s NFL offering is tight end Clay Harbor, who has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots, and spent all of the 2017 season on injured reserve for the New Orleans Saints.

Harbor has been trying to win the heart of Becca Kufrin, and in Monday’s episode, it looked like he was being set up to succeed. Becca took Harbor and nine other contestants on a group date to play football, complete with helmets and pads. As the only NFL player on the date, it was Clay’s chance to shine. They all ran drills, and Becca was very impressed with Clay (and his muscles).

Clay ran circles around the other nine guys on the group date. They were divided into two teams to play against each other, but tragedy struck during the game. While Harbor was running the ball into the end zone for a game-tying touchdown, he injured his wrist fighting his way through several opponents. He returned after a trip to the emergency room, wearing a sling on his arm.

Unfortunately, Harbor was told that he needed surgery to repair his wrist. And even though Becca had given him the group date rose, signifying that she liked him the most, Harbor chose to leave the show so he could get surgery. The two had a goodbye scene that was so emotional that there wasn’t even a rose ceremony at the end of the episode.

Even though that episode just aired, it was filmed months ago. On his Twitter account, Harbor assured everyone that his wrist is fine now, and he’s ready to play football as soon as a team signs him.

“I would gladly give my wrist for a chance at love.” Isn’t that romantic? Maybe Clay Harbor should be the next Bachelor.
