9mobile appoints Ibrahim Umar as new chief HR

Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services (EMTS) Limited, operators of 9mobile telecommunication services, has announced the appointment of Ibrahim Umar, as Chief Human Resources Officer, effective July 1st.

Ibrahim brings to 9mobile an extensive work experience in leadership and strategic human resource management spanning 20 years across various industries, including consulting, telecommunication, finance, and energy.

He holds a doctorate degree in Management from the Birmingham University, and Master’s in International Economics, in addition to several executive education programmes from prominent business schools, including the Harvard and London Business Schools.

His most recent role was Principal Consultant in the Sultanate of Oman, where he implemented an integrated talent management roadmap for an $11billion organisation.

He was also Director of Human Resources and Business Services at Ntel Mobile Telecommunication Network, and Head of Human Resources at Mainstream Energy Solutions. He also held several positions in Human Resources and Customer Operations across the MTN Group.

As chief human resources officer, Ibrahim will be responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy to support 9mobile’s overall business plan and strategic direction.
Commenting on the appointment, 9mobile’s Acting Managing Director, Stephane Beuvelet, said management and staff of the telco are extremely delighted at the appointment.

He said Ibrahim’s wealth of experience would be of immense benefit as the telecom firm continues to consolidate the gains of its recently concluded recapitalisation.

Speaking on his appointment, Ibrahim pledged to leverage his wealth of experience to impact positively on the operations of the company.
