South Bend Mayor Marries Partner In Same-Sex Ceremony
South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg married partner Chasten Glezman during June 16 ceremony, three years after coming out as gay.
SOUTH BEND, IN — South Bend Democratic Mayor Pete Buttigieg married his partner Saturday. Buttigieg announced his marriage on Twitter, thanking everyone who helped the pair celebrate. According to Indianapolis Star, Buttigieg, 36, and Chasten Glezman exchanged vows during a 45-minute ceremony at the Cathedral of Saint James Episcopal Church in South Bend.
The ceremony included readings from scripture, poets and included parts from the majority opinion in Obergefell v. Hodges, the U.S. Supreme Court case that legalized same-sex marriage on June 26, 2015, the same year Buttigieg announced he was gay.
Buttigieg was elected mayor in 2012 and is a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Afghanistan. After the wedding, the newlyweds reportedly headed to the South Bend Pride Block Party, according to the New York Times.
