EFCC begins manhunt for unqualified graduates undergoing NYSC scheme

EFCC begins manhunt forunqualified graduates undergoing NYSC scheme

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said it will partner the National Youth Service Corps to fish out unqualified graduates currently in the scheme.

EFCC said it had received a request from the NYSC to check the activities of “unpatriotic Nigerians who sell their certificates to unqualified graduates to be able to undergo the youth service”.

The acting chairman of the anti-corruption body, Ibrahim Magu, stated these in Abuja when he received the NYSC Director-General, Brig-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, in his office in  Abuja. A statement by the NYSC on Tuesday quoted Magu as saying the EFCC would support the NYSC  in its move to combat fraudulent mobilisation of unqualified graduates for national service.

He stated, “We condemn the activities of unpatriotic elements who bring shame to the nation by their insatiable desire to make money at all costs, including the sale of certificates  to unqualified graduates.”

The NYSC DG appealed to the EFCC for support “in closely monitoring the activities of unscrupulous higher institutions which present unqualified graduates for mobilisation for national service.

It is very unfortunate that some institutions of higher learning, particularly in Cotonou, Benin Republic, present to us people who didn’t go to the four walls of the university as graduates for mobilisation. Currently, we are investigating some of such so-called graduates, many of whom cannot write or spell any word in English.”

Someone please educate me on this: Does the NYSC act specify that a graduate must read and write English? I'm aware of highly educated French speaking people who cannot speak or write in English. I once worked under a Nigerian whose only language was Portuguese. He had a Master's degree but could only communicate in Portuguese and Igbo.

These guys are really jobless. If they weren't they won't have time to chase unqualified graduates when there are more important and pressing work to be done.

Shey unqualified graduation na financial crime abi? Nigeria will never ever be great again..... I’ve given up on this country. A country where only the incumbent government enjoys and the rest suffer. Anybody that say he/she is proud to be a Nigerian is joke. I can’t wait to get my citizenship elsewhere honestly, my children can never experience this BS!

You would think there are many more pressing issues than unqualified NYSC participants facing law enforcement in the country. The NYSC should have an Investigative Division to handle this matter. Essentially, our priorities are misplaced.

EFCC sa 😂. Well it is a welcome development but that doesn't qualify as a financial crime if I'm wrong please educate me. It is the Job of the NYSC, NUC, Ministry of Education and the Federal Government to ensure that the recruitment process into the scheme is transparent and devoid of fraudulent acts and anyone found wanting should be prosecuted by the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

EFCC is more like a comical outfit. Keep chasing ghosts up and down. Fella's if una truly wan curb financial fraud, kindly start wit the Presidency, the senate, House of Rep, Governors and ministers then down to Local government Chairmen and various Ministries and parastatals and stop insulting us by your continuous assault on the young ones {am not for certificate forgery} but truth is that you leave the lion to chase the cockroach. A bunch of incompetent federal employees just wasting our hard earned Federal allocation on ghost hunting. CRAP!! I LOATH EFFCC! To blazes

If the Vice President have right to send his son abroad to study, while we have some standard universities as the politicians implied, I sincerely see nothing wrong with any students who aspire to serve as NYSC. It would be of an additional benefit to our Nigerian student that do not understand French to learn. This scheme aimed at bringing about unity in the country and help the youths appreciate other ethnic groups. It also involve learning, not a work place, where some individuals would categorically said, some student cannot speak English. Yoruba is a Language, Hausa is a Language and Igbo is also a language, if the referred student can speak the above languages, I think they should be allow to participate with no threat.
