ICW New York Cancels Show Due To Suspended License; Promoter Issues Statement

This weekend’s scheduled ICW New York event NOME (Night Of Main Events) has been cancelled to due a suspended promoters license.

ICW New York’s Jac Sabboth issued the following statement, explaining the situation:

To all ICW fans and supporters:

It is with a broken heart that I have to inform you that the ICW show scheduled for Friday, June 1st at the Elmcor Center has been cancelled. After all these years, I have learned that the fans and performers are not interested in excuses, but in this instance, everyone should at least be aware of the situation.

For the last couple of years, I have used Earl Cooter aka Bryan Idol’s license, ring and insurance to run my shows. The plan for this event was the same. Bryan was my contact with the NYSAC and the venue, and we worked out an agreement ahead of time the same as every other show we have done together. What I did not know this time around was that Bryan’s license had been suspended by the NYSAC, a fact which he was aware of no less than 2 weeks ago, but that he neglected to tell me until yesterday (5/30), 2 days before our scheduled event. In the State of New York, all shows must be filed with the NYSAC no fewer than 10 days before the event, which means upon being informed of his situation I was left with no opportunity to find a new license, and no means of recourse or remedy.

I contacted the NYSAC this morning and asked if there was anything that could be done, or if any exception could be made in order to allow me to save this event from cancellation. Unfortunately, it was confirmed that I had no options. I have done business with Bryan loyally for many years and always in good faith. I believed him to be honest, and that I could trust him to hold up his end of the bargain in our business dealings. I also considered him a friend, which in this business are few and far between. Needless to say, I feel let down and dissapointed. [sic]

Most importantly though, I feel like I have let down the fans of ICW. I have never been more excited to bring ICW back for another run, this time recharged and motivated to change our entire way of thinking and bring a new and exciting product to the city of New York. I thank you for your support, and apologize that I will not be able to deliver for you this weekend. Again, I know that nobody is interested in hearing excuses, and I ultimately accept the responsibility for this situation at the end of the day. I hope you understand that I did my best to fix this, but have been left with no choice but to cancel.

All refunds will be issued through your point of sale. Anyone with questions can email me at ashlbali@aol.com

Thank you for reading,

Jac Sabboth

PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson noted a rep from the ELMCOR Center said the venue never fully agreed to host the event due to a change in management. Johnson also stated no deposit was ever paid on the building for the event.
