I am a tight ass, but too tight to even pay the laptop tax, I'd rather buy a used dell or something and a new PSU and GPU

Yours faithfully

Yes, but only in the sense that I buy cheap-ass games or just games on sale in general.

BTW:

Include display Hz OC in your gaming and "gaming" laptop/notebook reviews, pretty please! :)

I only get games that are either free or on sale, so I'd say so.

Also, I prefer the term "budget gamer"....

Budget-ass gamer, eh?

Hand, n. A singular instrument worn at the end of the human arm and commonly thrust into somebody’s pocket.

Call it what you like.

Both of the rigs I've built haven't had a budget for a dGPU, so take a guess lol

Question: what did people think of how the video was made? Not seen a style like this before on ltt. Liked the creativity in it, but I think it borderes on sounding very much like marketing material/sounding cheesy or cringy then an actual review?

I'm halfway through this video and 3 things have come to my attention...

1: Who the hell charges their phone on a laptop? Esp one that is clearly not plugged in...

2: What kind of asshole do you have to be to just assume the person next to you is cool with you consuming their precious battery...

3: What laptop owner with a USB-C phone would not have prepared for this? There are adapters or cables that give USB-A...

Am I a cheap gamer? I guess so with my i5-6600k (better) with a 1070 (better) and 32GB ram (better) with 4TB 7200rpm (better) of dedicated gaming space... Yea... I'm cheap...

More like smarter. Gaming on a go is a thing, yes, but it's not as big as it was 5 or so years ago...

I actually thought it was sponsored by Dell because of the opening I completely missed the opening ad...

To be honest, 850$ is not what I consider cheap... you're too spoiled @LinusTech linus_happy48x48.jpg.7f12136abb4b62615c6a89aa7c1baccd.jpg

I buy my laptops used and if I wanted to play games on them I'd just look for one with a passable iGPU in it :P

I do when I forget to leave it plugged in at night :c on my own laptop though...

Plugged in or not doesn't really matter, usually charging a phone to a point where it will last you until you get home only draws about 10% of a laptop's battery.

I normally will try, and it's never netted more than 2Hz over advertised.  I did hear that some of the Dell G series laptops can be overclocked, this one definitely cannot.

Yea, but the video made it feel like charging your phone via a laptop unplugged is a thing to do normally(and to try to do so on a laptop with 4.5 hours of life). The guys movements were way too calm and casual...

Someone charging their phone on a laptop because they goofed is completely acceptable and happens. But how the video protraide it...

I think it was intentionally forced in order to be funny and talk about all the features the laptop has; right now there aren't many common usb-c peripherals aside from phones.

You're not wrong, but some people need a computer that they can also take on the road.

And today, if you're buying new, a desktop isn't even going to be much cheaper than $850 for comparable hardware. If you were to run an i5-8400 and desktop GTX 1050 Ti you'd be looking at close to $400 for those parts alone. By the time you build the rest of your tower, get a monitor & peripherals, you're not far from $850.

If you're a college student that needs a laptop and you prefer to go the "buy the cheapest laptop I can find & get a decent gaming desktop" route you'd be VERY lucky to get out under $850.

Except you can use your 8 year old case and 6 year old monitor (or TV) and 5 year old power supply and 4 year old SSD and...

"If you're buying new" ignores the major advantage desktops have here.

(and then there are consoles, if you really only want up-front costs)

You're looking at it from ONE perspective - someone that already HAS an 8 year old case or a 6 year old monitor etc.

It's obvious that this product isn't for you, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a very sizable market for something like it.

Well that market does not consist of cheap-asses, that's what I'm saying. Because there are cheaper-ass ways to game. Like a console, if you insist on buying everything new at the same time (which cheap-asses don't necessarily).
