How long does it take to film scrapyard wars? Seems like it's all on the same day.

They film them within a few days, because of the time limit they set for themselves.

This is a bit strangely off-topic, but I have a problem with dbrand, I need to get in contact with them, and the problem occurred over their normal support/inquiry channel and they aren't responding over social media. Do you guys know of any other way to contact them beyond snail mail? I hate to ask this here but I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do.

Not exactly, I know of a company that does the same thing, they are not shady at all. Tho I would be questioning the abilities of the sales rep if he can't handle the "pushy Linus"... I personally think he was lying about not having at least quads... Tho I think Linus went wrong on the question because they do have quad i5 on their site for about $200.

Their primary business is to buy bulk, then sell bulk to places like Factory Direct, Canada Computers, or to companies who use them and don't care about specs so much etc. All of whom have multiple stores and a warehouse or 2 for those stores.

Sadly only way of getting them, he can ask someone to get the files however, tho one could assume they have drivers sitting around on USBs to begin with since the nature of the channel...

Not super happy about the blatant product placement in every shot *cough* switch girl * cough*. Did you really have to go that far?

Man, I just read Linus's attempt to play off the whole switch girl thing.

Please oh please. You expect us to believe you did it just because it was "le funny XD" and not because you could charge a ton to have someone on camera the entire time with their product? It is so funny to have distracting camera framing attempts like at approx 7:15 of this weeks episode, you got me!

The product showcase videos that are little more than actual paid advertisements were bad, but it seems like any time money can be made there's a justification. It's gotten to the point that I unsubbed and only watch the select videos that aren't just clickbait/straight up ads. And I've been watching since OG NCIX Tech Tips.

TL;DR chill everyone...

I've been a lurker for a while now and I just think that understanding Geep's business will make an important revelation of why they behaved in that manner.

Sure they sell old equipment away to recover some cost of their business BUT that is not their business.

A quick visit to their website shows that they are an asset management company. These companies are ISO compliant to comply to stringent audit and security.

A company like Geep is contracted by companies who are also ISO certified. Meaning these companies will be audited by external auditors to ensure that they follow stringent disposal and sanitation processes to ensure that no confidential information from the machines for disposal are leaked in any way.

If you look closely the rig that Linus ends up getting writes "Wipe Pass" This usually means that there is no way to retrieve or see any data from its previous or original owner. Simply put Geep sold the computer without hard disk and RAM and most likely Caroll would have been the guy who added the video cards, RAM and disk to make it a complete system.

You might ask next as to why people take disposal so seriously. It is because there are laws for it that the corporate world needs to comply to about data leaks! Especially for *GDPR*

what is the deal with the girl in the background of many shots playing on a switch?

For all those you didn't bother to look through Part 2.

So the intent was to make it kind of a meme. Like have her there all the time without acknowledging her at all. Figured it would be funny.

We thought it would be very obvious that she was sent by Dbrand. There was no intent to be shady about it, and it surprises me that anyone would get that vibe from it. It's pretty "in your face".

The Dbrand sponsorship of Scrapyard Wars 7 is about as blatant as any sponsorship could be. There are both text and verbal call-outs. We aren't at risk of running foul of any product placement laws, lol.

I can't be bothered loading up the video, but I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that is when Luke is talking in the car and the camera keeps panning away from Luke while he's talking just to ensure that the #productplacementgirl is in shot? Assuming that's what you're talking about, yeah, it was horrendous to watch. Honestly, I felt it was disrespectful to Luke to have the camera pull away from him while he was talking about his plan just to fit in an ad spot. That's just the basic decency of if someone is talking to you, you look at them.

This product placement girl, and the focus put on her to the point that it actually detracts from the main hosts and the content, is easily making this the worst scrapyard wars yet.

Linus has already addressed it in the previous thread, and admitted it was a mistake having her there. Obviously LTT has already done the edit for the episodes and the upcoming videos are already up on floatplane, so they can't take the feedback from the first few episodes and re-cut the remaining episodes to remove her, but hopefully next scrapyard wars they will learn from the mistakes and we won't have to watch the camera pull away from the main hosts to sneak in an unrelated ad in the background.
