Game Thread 6/14: Rockies at Phillies

Will the Phillies ever remember how to hit?

The Phillies are in a doozy of a slump, and at this point, I think it might be time to stop calling it a slump. Whatever they’re doing as far as hitting philosophy and instruction just isn’t working. They’re walking like crazy, but they can’t manage to actually get a ball to fall in, or even sometimes to put a bat on it at all. I love patience, but maybe it’s time to stop being patient and start being more aggressive.

All I want is for the Phillies to start hitting again. I don’t even care about winning, I just want them to prove they’re capable of hitting major league pitching. Is that too much to ask? I hope not.

I have to say, I enjoy how Gabe Kapler has started messing with the lineups, all except for the No. 3 spot. I love Odubel Herrera, but this is the same problem they were having when Rhys Hoskins spent the entirety of his monthlong slump hitting in lineup spots 2, 3, or 4. Odubel has barely moved from the third spot in the past month, when he’s been hitting under .200. It’s not good!

Let’s hope we see something inspiring from the Phillies today. Besides those sweet, sweet powder blue throwbacks. God I love those.
