Video: Watch Heartbreaking moment a couple lost their child in a government-owned hospital in Nigeria because they had no money for doctors to commence treatment

A Nigerian man, Mike Obioma, has shared the heartbreaking video showing the moment a Nigerian couple lost their child in a government-owned hospital because they had no money to pay doctors for them to commence treatment.

Obioma who says he has gone as a spy to several hospitals with a camera planted on him, shared the video on his Facebook page and wrote

''Imagine a country where little babies die helplessly.

So I went undercover to some government hospitals, planted camera on myself to show you the level of corruption and ineptitude in our Nigerian hospitals. In the past months have travelled to more than 10 government hospitals in Abuja, Nasarawa, Benue and Plateau State NorthCentral Nigeria.
This shocking Live Video is one of the numerous babies I watched die right there in a government funded hospital. Infact this particular hospital this was the 3rd baby that died within 8 hours of my stay there.

This man Mr Christopher had rushed his baby boy to the hospital that day. He was showing signs of severe illness. One doctor attended to him and told him to go buy card the baby needs to be placed on oxygen. Mr Christopher after buying the card pleaded that he didn't have enough money but he will call his relatives in a bit that treatment should commence immediately to save his boy's life. All those fell on deaf ears he was abandoned there like an animal until his son passed away right inside the hospital. I was the one who gave Christopher 500 naira to go home with his profusely weeping wife and bury his child. I have been calling him since then I have his phone number. I feel deeply sorry for this man.

He saw a desperate couple who needed help to save their dying child and he did nothing to help until their son died. Only to give them #500 to go home and bury the dead child... SMH. You could have done something and later call our attention to the evils going on in those institutions. Sorry to say this sir, but you're part of the problem, not the solution.

There's no value on human life in Nigeria. It means nothing. What about the Hippocratic oath?

A lot of doctors in Nigeria behave this way because medicine wasn't their true calling. A sizeable number of them became doctors because they were forced by their parents/family members. Others became doctors because of the "status" the title provides. Forcing someone to go into medicine because it is seen as an honourable career path needs to stop! It produces cold-hearted professionals, who should otherwise be empathetic!

Before you start commenting about how doctors are this and that note that most of these hospitals are government owned. The doctors would be held accountable if the patients do not make payment and the only way to ensure payment is to get the money upfront. None of the money is paid to the doctor. Only few emergency drugs can be provided by the hospital and and they are never complete. Drugs may be there but no syringes to administer them, drips may be there but no drip giving set. It's unfortunate that lives are being loat but pls Blame your government. It's the clowns we keep voting into power who don't care about us. All the drugs and tests that should be done should be covered by insurance but nhis in Nigeria is the biggest scam. P. S the greatest joy most doctors get is from seeing a patient get well. But our hands are tied

The government should pass a law stopping all politicians and higher class citizens from seeking treatment abroad. By so doing, they'd be forced to reform the healthcare to make it suitable for the layman. This happens everyday and it's really saddening.

So Mr Mike obioma, you sat there and watched a little baby die because you were more interested in unraveling the rot in public hospitals, something that's already news. I'm utterly disappointed. You could have assisted, but making the next trending news was more important to you.

Oga, you are part of the problem in this country. You didn't do anything to assist but gave them money to go home after already loosing their child.

Blame the government if its in a government owned hospital. Leave the doctors alone. Abi is it the doctor you pay to for oxygen? Or is it him that will go to oxygen room to bring oxygen?. Blame government oga. Even doctors in Nigeria pay for their own treatments. I'm one.

such an unkind journalist!!!! You are part of the evil been perpetrated in this country. You could have saved the child's life by intervening but you didn't rather your so called mission was more important than the life of the Child and the happiness of the couple. What do you think the father would do after knowing that the same man who came him N500 as transport back home was the same man who could have helped but chose to film his baby till he/she gave up the Ghost? Bros na to curse u to death ooo!!!!!

Why are you all blaming the journalist? He is showing what’s going on instead you all see it and don’t tell others what’s happening. The doctors are all contrary to their oath. It’s sad that some of these men travel overseas and are never good doctors. Once heartless always heartless

And tomorrow if this man goes rogue, probably if he comes back with a mob and burns down the hospital, they'll say he's wicked or a ritualist. Our government is doing nothing different from building more hatred and inhumanity in the hearts of it's citizens. I sympathize with you sir and please please do not take laws into your hands. IT WILL BE BETTER WE PRAY!!!

Have you seen CNN rich journalist pay for children in the hospitals in Iraq or somalia? Most Nigerian Journalist are not well paid. These hospitals will not attend to you if you don't pay money (I just had a similar experience but no death). This is where government should come in and put in place a health care plan to help people like these couple who just lost their child. The activities of the hospitals should also be monitored by the appropriate authorities. Save life first and then you can talk about Bills later.

Truth is no hospital will attend to anyone who comes without deposit and dis is sad. usually, different departments are in charge of different stuffs. There's drip, blood, medicines, medical items, you just name it. Usually, the departments in charge of these stuff will need cash. Is it d doctor dat has his own issues or nurse that is poorly paid that will buy blood or bed spacenor drugs or any item for dying people? This is d job of the govt. I was once in a hospital and a child was dying, I advised d mum to beg around and she did. The little money she got,she gave d hospital and they started to treat. Usually, they reject empty-handed patients.
