Phillies MLR 8/9/18: Is this Mickey Moniak hot-streak for real?

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 8/9/18

Weekend Probables:

LHV: Ranger Suarez, TBD, Cole Irvin
REA: Tyler Viza, Harold Arauz, Ranfi Casimiro
CLR: David Parkinson, Anthony Requena, Mauricio Llovera
LWD: Andrew Brown, Gustavo Armas, Julian Garcia
WIL: James McArthur, Jhordany Mezquita, Ethan Lindow

Indianapolis 3, Lehigh Valley 1

Tom Eshelman - 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 K, WP, 7 GB, 4 FB
Jesmuel Valentin - 0 for 4, BB, 2 K, SB
Joey Meneses - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, 3 K
Zach Green - 3 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB
Mitch Walding - 0 for 1, K
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 1

It’s been a rough season for Tom Eshelman and it only hurts more when the offense can’t give him run support. He has 4 losses in his last 5 games and yet has a 2.59 ERA and 26 strikeouts to 7 walks (in 31.1 IP) over that stretch. Do better IronPigs. Zach Green provided 3 of the team’s 5 hits last night. It helped boost his average back up over .200 for the season (.222).

Reading 2, Akron 0

Felix Paulino - 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 7 GB, 5 FB
Adam Haseley - 2 for 3, RBI, BB
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 4, 2 K
Darick Hall - 0 for 4, K
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4
Austin Listi - 0 for 4, 2 K
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 3, R, 2B, K

Felix Paulino notches his 2nd AA and his best start since being promoted to Reading. He along with Seth McGarry and Jeff Singer held the Akron offense to just 6 hits and allowed only 3 walks. The Fightin’s offense scored their only runs in the top of the 3rd. Adam Haseley just keeps on hitting. Since being sent to Reading, he is slashing .337/.430/.478 with 3 HR in 92 at-bats.

St. Lucie 4, Clearwater 1

Jerad Eickhoff - 3 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 2 GB, 1 FB
Adonis Medina - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HBP, 5 GB, 3 FB
Arquimedes Gamboa - 2 for 4, BB, K
Mickey Moniak - 2 for 3, 2B, BB
Henri Lartigue - 0 for 4
Edgar Cabral - 2 for 4, HR
Daniel Brito - 3 for 4, K, CS
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 4 (fielding error)
Kevin Markham - 0 for 4, K
Jose Gomez - 0 for 4, K

Another rehab appearance for Jerad Eickhoff, only this one didn’t go as well as the one from last week. Adonis Medina came in and settled things down, but the offense was in-opportunistic. Despite out-hitting St. Lucie 10-6, they were 0 for 3 with RISP and left 9 on-base. Also, that Mickey Moniak kid is slashing .295/.344/.472 with 16 walks to 47 strikeouts over his last 216 plate appearances. I’m kind of getting excited guys. Edgar Cabral’s homer was his 5th of the season.

Lakewood 3, Charleston 0 (5 innings, completed early due to rain)

Will Stewart - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K, 6 GB, 1 FB
Dalton Guthrie - 0 for 3
Simon Muzziotti - 0 for 2, BB (outfield assist, home)
Jake Scheiner - 1 for 3, 2B, K
Rodolfo Duran - 1 for 2, HR, BB
Jhailyn Ortiz - 2 for 2, R, BB
Nick Maton - 1 for 3, R, K
Madison Stokes - 0 for 2, K
Colby Fitch - 1 for 2, RBI
Josh Stephen - 1 for 2, K

Will Stewart and the BlueClaws certainly benefited from the game ending early. Stewart got his 8th win and saw his ERA creep down below 2.00 for the season (1.89). He had the benefit of facing an opposing pitcher named Janson Junk, which has to be one of the most unfortunate names for a pitcher I have seen in quite some time. Rodolfo Duran is still showing surprising power this season, launching his 13th this year. He had none last year in Williamsport. Last night was Jhailyn Ortiz’s first multi-hit game since July 17th.

Mahoning Valley 4, Williamsport 1

Juan Escorcia - 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 5 K, HR, WP, 6 GB, 4 FB
Ben Aklinski - 1 for 4
Rafael Marchan - 0 for 4, K (throwing error)
Ben Pelletier - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Danny Mayer - 0 for 4, 2 K
Jake Holmes - 1 for 3, BB, K, CS
Brayan Gonzalez - 2 for 3, 2B, RBI, K
Jonathan Guzman - 2 for 4, K
Keudy Bocio - 1 for 3
Matt Kroon - 0 for 3, 3 K

Not a bad start from Juan Escorcia, but he is still tagged for his 3rd loss of the season. The offense out-hits Mahoning Valley 8-6, but were 0 for 5 with RISP and left 6 on base. Since joining the Crosscutters, Jake Holmes has gone 9 for 24. He was slashing .353/.395/.534 in 116 at-bats in the Gulf Coast League prior to his promotion.
