The Mayor of Milan. Giuseppe Sala, discussed the continued talks of a new stadium for Inter and AC Milan to gathered reporters at the Linkiesta Festival yesterday, with Italian news organisation ANSA reporting his words.

“It’s not that for the fear of Sesto San Giovanni that we can grant conditions beyond those that we would grant to any operator.”

“I am quite optimistic about the continuation, but we will see in the coming days. Our attitude is less than provocative. We treat the teams like any entrepreneur or private individual who wants to make a real estate initiative in Milan.”

The City Council agreed that there was sufficient public interest in the idea of building a new stadium for Inter and AC Milan but refused to grant permission to the Milanese clubs to demolish the existing San Siro stadium in order to make space for a new stadium. Therefore, both clubs are considering moving the project to the Sesto San Giovanni area of Milan instead.
