Buhari Lands In Trouble Over Beans Scam

A businessman, one Mr. Waziri Buhari, is in trouble after he collected over N3.5m from a beans dealer in Lagos under false pretence and failed to supply the goods as promised.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the alleged scam took place at Millennium Village Vocational Centre, Ilogbo village in Etiosa, Local Government Area of Lagos.
It was gathered that Mr. Buhari received the money from one Michael West Nwajei in order to supply 300 bags of beans from the Northern part of the country.
He had convinced the victim that he stored the beans after he had harvested them from his farm, was ready to sell them and offered him a good price.
However, after he obtained the money, he escaped and did not supply the goods as he had promised. He was said to have switched off his known phone numbers and every communications with the victim.
The fraud was reported to the police of the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, who trailed Buhari and eventually arrested him at his hideout. During interrogations, he admitted collecting the money from the victim but said that he had used the money to solve his pressing personal problems.
Mr. Buhari was charged before Ikeja Magistrates court for fraud and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Peter Nwaongwu did not oppose his bail but asked the court to give a short adjournment for trial.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa granted Buhari bail in the sum of N750,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 27 July, 2018.
