The Mysuru district administration has geared up for the process of filing of nominations for the elections to Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency which begins from today. The last date for filing of nominations is March 26 and the constituency is going to polls in the second phase on April 18.
The nominations of candidates will be received at the Deputy Commissioner’s office from March 19 to 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and accordingly arrangements have been put in place.
Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar, returning officer and district election officer, inspected the area around his office with senior police officers with regard to the security and other arrangements as the next week is expected to witness a lot of rush with the poll fever gaining momentum.
Deputy Commissioner of Police M. Muthuraj and Assistant Commissioner of Police G.N. Mohan were present.
The DC said the candidates, their supporters and leaders of political parties have to follow the guidelines of the Election Commission while filing nominations. The model code of conduct came into force from March 10. The cooperation of the public was essential to ensure free and fair elections, the DC added.
Ban orders
Prohibitory orders around a 100 m radius of the DC’s office under Section 144 will be in force from March 19 to 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The DC has requested the public to cooperate with the authorities as movement of public will be regulated during the filing of nomination papers.
Candidates can collect the format of nomination papers and other certificates from the Deputy Commissioner’s office during office hours from March 19 to 26. Barring public holidays, the papers can be submitted from March 19 to 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Only two vehicles of the candidate will be allowed within the 100 m radius of the office in accordance with the EC guidelines at the time of filing of nomination papers. Only five persons, including the candidate, will be allowed inside (to the room where the papers will be received), according to a press release here.
Instructions had been given to representatives of political parties on the guidelines to the followed while filing the papers.
Since March 10, Excise Department officials conducted 254 raids on illegal liquor activities across Mysuru and registered 160 cases, besides confiscating illegal liquor and vehicles used to transport the illegal liquor. About 120 people have been arrested in this connection. The total value of the seizure was ₹81 lakh, said the Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Mysuru, in a note here.
