NBA: Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Sixers issued a brief press release this morning confirming the passing of 76ers legend, Hal Greer, at age 81 on Saturday, April 14th.

Greer played for the Sixers franchise from 1958 to 1973, playing for the team when they were the Syracuse Nationals and then the Philadelphia 76ers.

Greer’s career achieved numerous milestones, including winning the 76ers first NBA Finals (as the 76ers, not the Nationals, who did won it in 1955), appearing in 10 All-Star Games, being the first ever retired jersey for the Sixers (#15) and being inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Over the course of his career, Greer totalled 21,586 points (19.2 PPG), 5,665 rebounds (5.0 RPG) and 4,540 assists (4.0 APG). Greer was named one of the 50 greatest basketball players of all time in 1996 during the NBA’s 50th anniversary.

The Sixers will honor Greer at tonight’s game. May he rest in peace.
