eLiquid Review 431: Double Dragon by Vaping Mad

This week I’ll be looking at some flavours from a company that is pretty well known. If you’ve been vaping a while, you’re bound to have heard of them. They’ve been around for yonks, since 2012! Which is a long time in vape years!

Vaping Mad’s “Mad Mixes” come in a range of a huge 35 different flavours, that are available as singles or easy mix doublers. What I love about them, is they are against the use of sweeteners, so you can be sure, whichever flavour you pick up from them, won’t trash your coils or wicks.

What I’m most surprised about, is that I’ve not crossed paths with them before, nor tried any of their juices! Well, it’s finally happening :), lets take a look.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Double Dragon” from Vaping Mad
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

Throw back time! Get your fight on with Double Dragon. A full on mix of creamy dragon fruit sorbet. Fruity, smooth and totally frozen! Double Dragon will smack you in the face (but in a good way)!
Inhale: sweet warm dragon fruit
Exhale: tangy cool sorbet

The Review:

Dragonfruit is a great flavour to accent other fruits, and is used more than you think as an additive to create a little zing and a little sweetness in many eliquids out there. While it’s used to accent other flavours often, you’ll rarely come across an ejuice where Dragonfruit is the dominant note.

The description is spot on with this one, because “Double Dragon” as it’s name implies, is a full on sweet and fruity dragonfruit, with a smooth creamy base and a touch of menthol to give that little bit of chill.

Individual Notes

The dragonfruit is sweet fruit with a slight floral note, and a little muskiness. As the dominant note it hits surprisingly hard, and gives you a blast of flavour, with it’s slightly tart, sharp highlights.

Theres definitely some cream in here. It’s not a strong note, and difficult to attribute to a particular type of cream, but to hazard a guess, I would say that it is likely to be a sweet cream, or a marshmallow, due to it’s thick, full mouth feel, but no real dairy flavour noticeable.

The menthol, i suspect is a mix of some ws23 and menthol combined. I say that because I notice it on both the inhale and exhale, where ws23 will typically be felt on the inhale, and menthol on the exhale only.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale sees the dragonfruit hit you instantly, it’s not just the dragonfruit though, and I’ll note now that you’ll likely never see the dragonfruit on it’s own with this flavour. There is a creaminess as well as the menthol already coming through. The creamy marshmallow tones add a little weight and thickness to the inhale, while the menthol backs that creaminess up with a light mint and a chill that gives this a more frozen dessert feel. Not just a frozen cream, this one is almost icy.

Everything intensifies as you inhale, with the dragonfruit being dominant followed by the cream and then the menthol bolstering the cream, reaching a height at the top of the inhale before the exhale begins.

At the turn of the inhale and onto the exhale, you’ll notice the intensity progressively drop, warming slightly, with the menthol falling back and the thicker marshmallow/cream combined with the dragonfruit leaving more of an ice cream and fruit at the end of the bowl sensation. Just like scooping up melted ice cream and dragonfruit chunks after you’ve knocked off the scoops!

Final thoughts

This is quite a nice smooth creamy fruit vape. It’s something that I feel makes a great ‘go-to’ flavour that you know you can fill up with and go, and you’re always going to get a tasty vape.

This is not a complicated mix, but it’s well constructed with a steady hand, to make sure each of the notes work together without blowing out unintentionally.

Vaping Mad have done a great job on getting the dragonfruit to hit so hard, as typically it will turn soapy or perfumey if mixed too strongly.

A really nice mix, and a great introduction to the Vaping Mad range!

Where to Buy:

You can purchase this flavour as well as all of their other “Mad Mixes” directly from the Vaping Mad online store!

Colour:

Honey colour

Aroma:

Sweet, bright, fruity

Coil and wick damage:

Minimal damage to wicks and coils

PG/VG Ratio:

70%VG / 30%PG

Texture:

Thick and creamy yet sweet and tangy

Steeping:

A short steep might help the creaminess settle and the fruit blend. It’s great straight away though!

Presentation:

I received 120ml smokey grey plastic bottles with long pointy tips and leak proof screw caps. The labels are fairly basic, being matt white paper labels, but there is a tonne of awesome information on them, such as “Best By” date, contact information for Vaping Mad, Ingredients, as well as a large Vaping Mad logo and name of the flavour underneath.

I really like these caps, because they seem to not leak very much, unlike other bottles, and the nozzle is small enough to fill a tank or squonk bottle really quickly without giving yourself RSI from having to squeeze too hard!

Test rigs:

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
OBS Engine RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
