Japan Tests Suspension of AM Radio Stations
June 4, 2024Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is testing the impacts of shutting down AM radio stations. For a year-long period beginning this past February, 34 AM radio stations in Japan will shut down for at least a subset of that period. Stations are encouraged to relay programming via other channels such as FM, television, and internet.
The experiment is designed to measure the impact of AM radio going away. Comments from the public are being collected during the period.

FCC Seeks Comments on Impact of Communications from Geomagnetic Storms
June 3, 2024To better understand the impacts of the geomagnetic storm on the U.S. communications sector, the [Federal Communications Commission’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau] is requesting information from communications service providers and the public regarding disruptions in communications between May 7 and 11, 2024, that it believes to be a result of the storm.
