United Airlines refunded passengers after a stewardess was accused of being drunk and disrupting a flight from Denver to North Dakota.

She was said to have told passengers in an on board announcement: “If your seatbelt isn’t tight, you f----- up.”

Police in Williston, in northwestern North Dakota, said they received a call from airport officials before the flight landed on Thursday afternoon that an occupant was intoxicated and had a medical condition.

Police determined that the person was drunk and forwarded the investigation to the FBI.

A passenger tweeted: "Drunk and disorderly - belligerent flight attendant.

"Boarding announcements were ‘if your seatbelt isn’t tight, you F----d up.’

"I went to the cockpit and talked to the captain and police were waiting when we landed."

The flight was operated by Trans States Airlines, a regional service provider for United Airlines.

It said reports of erratic behavior were being investigated and the flight attendant is being held off the job.

United Airlines said it was refunding air fares “as a gesture of goodwill”.
