Dino Melaye’s custody uncertain after being granted N90 million bail

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja granted a bail of N90 million to Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, yesterday.

The embattled senator, who was arraigned by the police on allegations that he escaped from lawful custody, arrived the magistrate court premises on a stretcher and was conveyed by medical personnel from the ambulance into the court building.

Melaye, who was reported to have jumped out of a moving police vehicle had been receiving treatment at the National Hospital and then detained until yesterday afternoon when he was brought before the Wuse Magistrate Court for arraignment by the police.

He was reported to have been detained over an offence bothering on criminal conspiracy.

Although he was granted bail by the court, the police rearrested him.

Spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Jimoh Moshood, who is an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), has said Senator Dino Melaye is safe in police custody and is being held over allegations of conspiracy, gun-running, armed robbery and kidnapping which is a matter before a High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State.
