I've started watching videos on coil building (ok only 2 videos). maybe its something i'd like to do. but I don't know how do it. what are the benefits of making coil. and how many puffs do you get from your coil...before having to build new one.

Coil building is fun, though as with most vape related things some would probably disagree! Benefits are that you can tweak the coil to your own taste, experiment with different types of coils and set ups and financially a lot more cheaper than stock coils, a roll of wire can be around the same price as a stock coil! I usually change a coil on around a weekly basis, this also has dependencies, what juice you use, how much you vape and what power, what type of coil etc, wicking is usually twice a week for me.

watching videos is the way forward to new builders though, theres a rebuildable section and a couple good vids in the how to section I think, the difficulty is usually dependent on the RDA/RTA you plan to use, of which theres likely to be a video focusing on that!

How many Puffs from a self made coil. Well, it kinda depends. For instance I use A1 Kanthal to build my coils, at around 1-1.3 oHm. I don't use particularly "clogging" juice. I rewick about every 20ml or so, dry burning my coil first, if I'm particularly on the case. Otherwise I don't re-wick until I find flavour drops off.
I can use the same coil quite a few times, if I dry burn it. I change my coil if I think it's manky, or I cock up when I'm re-wicking and wreck my coil.
Puffs? Dunno, but ages to be honest before I have to re-coil!

The coils rarely go, it's the wick that goes bad sooner(same for stock coils, you just refer to them as the coil, when really it's the wicking not the wire that has been spent),

i tend to rewick twice a week,if you look after your coils they can last you a good few months

I really enjoy coil building for a couple of reasons.
A) it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying stock coils that were only lasting me a few days (smok :25:). I was paying the best part of a tenner for 3 stock coils. I bought a spool of wire (10m) for about a fiver, plus cotton at about a fiver, which will make many many more coils! To give you an idea: in October I bought a spool of stainless steel alien wire and a pack of cotton bacon which has 10 fairly thick strips of cotton in (approx a tenner for the two), I've built 5 coils from the spool and rewicked god knows how many times due to testing flavours. I've used maybe a metre of wire and 6 and a half strips of cotton. Therefore, each coil costs me literally pennies to build and wick. Wicking I tend to change once or twice a week, when I notice the flavour starting to drop off. Each time I rewick I dry burn the coil to remove any build up from the juice, stick some fresh cotton in and voila it's good for another few days (depending on juice and whether I chain vape). I tend to change the coil once dry burning fails to produce the same sort of flavour as it did to start with, so maybe once every couple of weeks ish.
B) I can tailor the build to what suits me best. For example, with one of my juices I prefer a single coil build at around 0.4 ohm, for others I prefer dual coils at lower ohms. Building my own means I have the flexibility to get my vape exactly how I want it. Only downside is that I've spent more money on loads of different rda's/rta's so I can have a different build and juice in each, then it's just a case of swapping them onto my mod of choice (though I now have 5 mods :18: 2 more and I'll be set for each day of the week! :18::2thumbsup:).

Apologies :eeek: that's a bit of an essay!!

1. Its a lot cheaper than buying stock coils once you find the right wire to suit you ....
2. Its hard to say how many puffs you will get from your coils i normally change mine about once a month .....
3. I rewick my coils about twice a week to get the best out of my juices....
4. Its also a lot of fun doing your own coils and a part of your vaping hobby....
5. Hope this helps you out a bit and enjoy doing them....
6. Most important part i forgot to mention is if you are going to use a mech mod you will need a ohm meter and no your ohm laws if your using a regulated mod you will be fine and wont really need a ohm meter as your mod will have safety features built in to it.....

Imagine that you want a let's say .. a salad.

You have multiple choices to buy premade ones with different prices & different quality. There's a lot of choice but probably can never find the perfect salad + the price increases immensely if you want something exquisite.

Or you can buy your own ingredients and over a few tries learn how to make it. And then you can always make that ideal salad which you can't buy anywhere & you can tweak it to your preference every time you make it. And is also a lot cheaper when buying something premade.

So yeah, salads. And rusty spoons.

I rewick every 1-2 days, depends on the juice, I build a new coil maybe once every 10 days or so. I was changing prebuilt coils in my tank every 2-3 days, and sometimes a whole pack of coils that I bought would taste burnt from the start, even though I used low wattage and primed my coils and let them sit in the juice for even longer than recommended. So a few times I basically threw like 5-10 pound out the window...

Prebuilt coils are also mostly used on in tanks, although you can buy premade coils for RDAs. I like RDAs more in general, I like being able to change juices often.
