Olusegun Mimiko, the immediate past governor of Ondo State, has condemned, in strong terms, the alleged killings by Fulani herdsmen in Benue state and other parts of the country.

Dr. Mimiko was speaking on Wednesday, January 17, 2017 while fielding questions from newsmen after a solidarity visit to the Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, by the Afenifere and Ohaneze Ndigbo groups, at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, the capital of the central Nigerian state.

The former housing minister said no Nigerian should be killed in the name of religion or ethnicity, while calling on the Armed Forces and other security agencies to beef up security in areas where this type of killing is ongoing.

“Every Nigerian life is valuable either within or outside the country. No life should be lost as a result of inter-ethnic violence,” Mimiko said.

“I sympathize with the government and the good people of Benue state and hope that the Federal Government will nip these killings in the bud.”

He further reiterated his call for restructuring of the country, which according to him will empower state governors and ensure that they fully perform their duties as chief security officers of their respective states.
