R.I.P. Sunset Strip Legend WILLIE BASSE (BLACK SHEEP)


What do SLASH, JAMES KOTTAK, GEORGE LYNCH, PAUL GILBERT, DJ ASHBA, RANDY CASTILLO have in common? They’ve all done intense music with metal pioneer, WILLIE BASSE!

Willie Basse passed away on October 29, 2018 of complications from cancer. Basse was 62. Basse was the frontman for Black Sheep which helped launch the career of guitarist Paul Gilbert of Racer X and Mr. Big fame.

Known for hosting wild parties at his North Hollywood rehearsal studio, he labeled his rock and roll lifestyle the “Sunset Strip Era”. Many of those stories are recounted in the “Tales From The Sunset Strip” podcasts. According to Basse, his office and printing press even supplied flyers to Poison, Warrant, Tuff, Jade, Bang Tango, Pretty Boy Floyd during that time.
