The Communist Party of India, which is part of the ruling coalition in only one State, need not worry about the Bharatiya Janata Party, which rules 19 States, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan has said.
“For the Lotus [the BJP’s symbol] to bloom in Tamil Nadu, it was enough if the party walked the path of honesty. It was not necessary to walk upside down, as CPI State secretary R. Mutharasan had claimed,” the BJP leader said, adding that the CPI was ill-equipped to talk about her party.
“The CPI need not worry about the BJP, which is working for people’s betterment, or its coalition. Let the CPI realise that it is part of a very weak coalition,” she said.
Ms. Soundararajan said the Central Water Commission had clarified that without Tamil Nadu’s consent, the Karnataka government would not be able to construct a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu.
Takes aim at Vaiko
On MDMK leader Vaiko's recent criticisms of the BJP, she said Mr. Vaiko, who had gained popularity due to his secessionist politics, was “out of form” with his comments.
The BJP leader said her party was confident of winning the elections in four out of five States that recently went to the polls.
