The third quarter saw Netflix’s global paid membership surpass 130 million, while its streaming revenue was 36% higher than in the same period last year.
The latest results show that the company gained 7 million net additions, which was higher than its forecast of 5 million and represented a new Q3 record. This, the company notes, was due to greater-than-expected acquisition globally, with strong growth across all its markets including Asia.
Netflix ended Q3 with 130.42 million paid memberships, up 6.07 million on three months earlier. Its membership total stood at 137.10 million, up 6.96 million on Q2.
Netflix’s international operation performed particularly well, gaining 5.07 million paid memberships in Q3 to reach 73.46 million. Total international membership stood at 78.64 million, up 5.7 million on three months earlier.
In the US, the company gained 1 million new paying customers in Q3, seeing the total grow to 56.96 million. Overall, it had 58.46 million members, up 1.09 million on three months earlier.
In terms of revenues, Netflix posted a total figure of $3,911 million for its streaming services in Q3, up 36% year-on-year. Though impressive, it was lower than the Q1 and Q2 year-on-year growth figures of 43.2% and 42.8% respectively.
