An Army jawan, accused of the murder of police officer in Bulandshahr, has been detained in Kashmir. Jeetendra Malik alias Jeetu Fauji, who has been posted in Kashmir valley, was detained by his unit after his name surfaced in the investigation of the killing of inspector Subodh Kumar Singh. Sources said he may be handed over to the UP police soon.

UP police, say sources, made a formal requisition to the Army for Malik's custody after his name cropped up during investigations into the mob violence that left two dead earlier this week in Uttar Pradesh. Malik was on a leave when violence broke out in his hometown on Monday, and he is said to have left for the Valley the same evening. He has allegedly among the 27 named in the FIR for instigating the violence that broke out over cow carcasses.

Jammu and Kashmir police, however, said no one had got in touch with them in this regard. "No team has come and nobody is in touch with them," insisted Dilbag Singh, Director General of police, Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, Army Chief, General Bipin Rawat said that full cooperation will be extended to the Uttar Pradesh Police. "If some evidence surfaces, we will bring him (Malik) to the police. If anyone has any suspicion, we will produce him to the police," Rawat said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the UP government transferred Bulandshahr SSP Krishna Bahadur Singh was to the DGP office on Saturday. The state also transferred two other policemen — Circle Officer Syana Satya Prakash Sharma and Chingravati police chowki in-charge Suresh Kumar. Additional Director General (ADG) Intelligence SB Shiradkar had submitted a report on the violence on Friday. The transfers are understood to be in line with the findings on police handling of the situation.
