ICE ERO Newark removes Salvadoran national wanted in El Salvador for 2 homicides

NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) removed a Salvadoran national Tuesday, who is wanted in El Salvador for his involvement in two homicides.

Juan Hernandez was escorted by immigration officers assigned to the ERO Newark field office and turned over to Salvadoran law enforcement authorities without incident.

“This individual, wanted for two counts of aggravated homicide in El Salvador, entered the United States illegally and continued to commit violent crimes,” said John Tsoukaris, field office director for ERO Newark. “Beyond his immigration violations, he proved himself to be a substantial threat to community safety. ERO, as well as local and state law enforcement, are to be commended for their brave and cooperative efforts in making sure he was removed from the country.”

In 2012, Cumberland County convicted Hernandez of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, robbery and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

On March 12, the New Jersey Department of Corrections released Hernandez to ERO Newark custody. On April 22, an immigration judge ordered him removed from the United States to El Salvador.
