Weeknote 41/2018
This week I’ve been:
- Sending out Issue #319 of my Thought Shrapnel newsletter. This one was called ‘Operation Twilight’. Thanks to those who make Thought Shrapnel possible via their support on Patreon.
- Dodging building work happening next door, so I’ve been spending more time working in my house and in coffee shops than in my home office.
- Creating a public microcast to explain just what they are. Usually they’re available exclusively to supporters of Thought Shrapnel.
- Meeting up with Eylan Ezekiel, who was in town. Also with Dan Mosforth, and (almost, due to hitchhiking issues) Nick Sellen.
- Working on the MoodleNet project:
- Publishing an interview with Mary Cooch about the history of moodle.net.
- Catching up with Alex every day while Mayel is away.
- Meeting with part of the management team about MoodleNet’s sustainability and initial roadmap. This led to a new approach, documented here.
- Asking Outlandish to publish in a temporary location the MoodleNet styleguide-as-code that they’ve been working on.
- Commenting on the work that the marketing team has been doing around branding.
- Outlining our need to create a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA).
- Arranging flights and accommodation for Doug to be in Barcelona next week.
- Participating in various Wellbeing week sessions and discussions. I wrote a blog post for World Mental Health Day.
- Working with Bryan Mathers on the concept of a MoodleNet ‘loadmap’ to explain what we’re currently working on, and what’s coming next. He’s created a updateable slide to add to our decks.
- Debriefing with Sarah Horrocks from London CLC about some recent work that our co-op did with them.
- Finalising arrangements for MozFest (my family’s coming down too).
- Curating interesting things I came across on the Thought Shrapnel blog:
- Providing a sounding-board for someone who found that my post on values-based career advice resonated.
- Attending and asking questions at the Open Recognition Alliance call about patents relating to Open Badges. I need to write a follow-up post, but all the details are accessible via Kerri Lemoie’s pre-meeting post.
- Spending a very enjoyable Friday morning ‘working’ out the Baltic Centre Contemporary Art.
Next week, I’ll at home on Monday, in Barcelona from Tuesday to Thursday, and then walking in the Lake District with my (barefoot) TIDE co-host Dai Barnes on Friday and Saturday.
