New Ford Edge Debuts in Paris with a Pair of Diesel Engines

Paris marks the European motor show debut of Ford’s new generation Edge crossover that will go on sale next year exclusively with a pair of fuel-efficient diesel units.

While the first-gen Edge was launched in North America in 2006, the all-new second-gen model marks the first time that Ford will offer the mid-size crossover in Europe, and given the choice of engines, it looks like the Blue Oval is taking the matter seriously.

In Europe, Ford will offer the Nissan Murano-rivaling Edge with two versions of its 2.0-liter Duratorq TDCi diesel engine.

These include an 180PS (178hp) unit delivering 400Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque and projected 149 g/km CO2, with 6-speed manual transmission, and a 210PS (207hp) unit producing 450Nm (332 lb-ft) and an estimated 159 g/km CO2 with 6-speed automatic and paddle-shift controls.

Ford says it’s not only the engines that match the tastes and needs of European drivers, but the chassis as well, “helping to deliver a driving experience that fully meets the expectations of European consumers”.

The new 2015 Edge will become Ford’s top SUV offering in Europe placed above the EcoSport and the Kuga.
