Here's the thing. This issue may have been caused by the recent iTunes update, but I tested this on ML (10.8.5), installing the latest iTunes update. I did confirm that "Find my Mac" was turned off, and after turning it back on, restarting and repairing permissions, the Users folder was left untouched and was not hidden.
If the same behavior does not occur on ML, then it must be something with Mavericks, because if it was really, fully iTunes that caused the hiding of the Users folder (when FMM also is turned on), then it would happen, irregardless of which OS was installed.
Nothing happens/becomes hidden in ML. Reports are only about Mavericks. Therefore, something's wrong with Mavericks (10.9.2 and 10.9.3, presumably).
