It's so easy to make this soda fountain favorite using cocoa powder, maple syrup, milk, and sparkling water.
Have you ever had an egg cream fizz?
No? Well, despite how weird the name sounds, they are delicious! They're like a chocolate milk soda in the best way possible.
Because I'm a big food nerd, I did some research on why in the world the name of this drink was called an egg cream fizz. I mean, there's no egg or cream in this beverage. That's just confusing.
After some googling, I found some compelling arguments that it was started in New York -- Brooklyn to be specific.
Most of the theories for the name come from someone mispronouncing a phrase causing it to become an "egg cream fizz" without the egg or cream.
Honestly, it doesn't matter why it's called this; what matters is that it tastes so good! Whoever created this concoction of milk, chocolate syrup, and soda water was a genius!
What these genius people probably didn't consider is the health benefits you get from cocoa. Maybe it's because chocolate syrup is better known for its hefty dose of sugar than for its cocoa flavanols (if it even has any).
For my version, I decided to bag the word egg. Not because I don't love eggs -- I really do. I just don't love the word "egg" in my chocolate fizzy drink specialty.
Chocolate, cream, and fizz are all better in my opinion at describing this deliciousness. But I wish there was a way that I could put in the title that it also boosts health benefits as well!
Tasty and health-promoting?! I'll have another glass tomorrow morning ๐
