Report Says Jeep Prepping Grand Wagoneer, New Pickup

As FCA’s highest volume brand continues to grow, it seems that Jeep is looking to expand and further develop its future line up.

As of matter of fact, we learned that the American car manufacturer is working on a “Range Rover killer”, also known as the future thorn in the high-end SUV niche, the upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Moreover, we recently found out that a re-engineered Grand Cherokee was delayed at least to 2018 – in order to allow a joint development of the platform with the above mentioned model.

And the news doesn’t stop here, as Automotive News reports that Jeep is also prepping a mid-size pick-up for 2018. The car will allegedly share many parts with the Wrangler, such as suspension and powertrain components, but will have a shorter bed than its competitors. Knowing how the pick-up market is blossoming since…forever in the U.S., it’s hard to come up with an answer why Jeep stubbornly missed out on it for such a long time.

Speaking of Wrangler, the news site reports that the next generation off-roader will arrive somewhere in late 2017 and will keep its trademark solid axles and steel body, but it will also be fitted with aluminum components in order to save weight. Furthermore, its design will remain more or less the same, but with a fixed, raked windscreen which may improve aerodynamics.
