Passengers were evacuated and all flights diverted following a ‘bomb threat’ at Bristol Airport on Saturday evening, according to reports.

A suspicious note saying a bomb was on board was found during a routine inspection of a Ryanair plane after it arrived at Bristol Airport from Spain.

The airport was shut down in the early hours of Sunday.

Passengers were evacuated and no planes could land on the runway while the note was investigated by police.

The airport has since reopened, but further delays are expected.

A statement from Bristol Airport said: “Police have been called after a suspicious item was found during a routine aircraft inspection following the arrival at Bristol Airport of Ryanair flight FR8297 from Alicante at 23:43 on Saturday August 22nd.”

An updated statement says: “Bristol Airport has fully reopened following a security incident overnight. 

“However, some delays may be experienced today as a result so passengers are advised to check our arrivals and departures pages for the latest flight information.”

A statement from Ryanair apologised for any inconvenience caused.
