New Apple TV goes on sale Monday, ships next week

Announced early last month, Apple's new Apple TV is meant to redefine how people find and consume television ... games, not so much, but gaming will still have a heavy presence on the streaming device.

What wasn't detailed during the September event was the release date for the new gadget, something Apple CEO Tim Cook announced during a Wall Street Journal event last night, The Verge reports.

The new Apple TV goes on pre-sale Monday and will begin shipping by the end of next week, he said. The 32GB model will sell for $149 and the 64GB version will sell for $199.

The device comes with a new remote that features both a glass touch surface across the top and the ability to listen and respond to voice commands through Siri. Among the features included in the new device are a screensaver and access to movies, television, apps, photos and music. The new Apple TV will run an operating system called TVos.

The system will support the ability to start a game on an iPhone and finish it on the Apple TV. There will also be single-app purchases for multiple devices, though what will be included in that remains unclear.

The games already in development for the new streaming box from Apple include Galaxy on Fire - Manticore Rising, Rayman Adventures, Disney Infinity 3.0 and Guitar Hero Live.
