I fail to see where the new potential might lie. There is currently lots of North South traffic and east to west current models from both Air Bus and Boeing are well able to serve the population centers in Nigeria (14% of entire African population) and Kenya/Ethiopia. It is more a question of filling seats and may require gathering of passengers on the West Coast (Kenya Airways stops in Lagos and Mali to return to NBO).

Seems that someone is just trying to fluff the image of Airbus here happens quite often.

You are most likely correct. Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Air and Egypt Air all have single aisle components of their fleets capable of performing trans-African flights.

Just what they need. A plane with an extra fuel load at take off. With all those perfectly groomed runways, attentive staff, and top notch mechanics it should be a piece of cake.

Who are they going to sell the too? SAA is flying almost all Bus now, and has become technically insolvent in the past week because of it. The rest of Africa's airlines are shoestring operations at best, and many of them are short of shoestrings.

For Africa to have need for additional air service they will first need to solve the problems of political stability and sanitation. Until they do that, there is little reason for more than a few to need air transportation.

Ric...SAA has lost market to two low cost airlines in South Africa and a couple of surrounding countries. They will have to restructure. They have good long haul but competition from Emirates.

Dakar has good runways and lousy immigration and customs. Nairobi and Addis Ababa both have good airport facilities and the latter high level maintenance and overhaul.
