The guided-missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102) arrives in Auckland for the first port visit by a U.S. Navy ship in more than 30 years

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (Nov. 22, 2016) . While originally en route to Auckland last week to participate in the International Naval Review commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Royal New Zealand Navy, Sampson diverted at the request of the government of New Zealand to assist the New Zealand Defence Force with disaster relief efforts in Kaikoura following the recent earthquake there.
