TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, who is also the chair of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK), said a number of business sectors still have not yet recovered from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The performance of these business sectors has not yet gotten back to their pre-pandemic conditions, while many others have recovered. Sri argued that they face difficulties to bounce back due to limited physical or face-to-face activities.
“There are sectors that are still below the pre-pandemic level. This is what we must pay attention to,” said Sri at the KSSK press conference on Wednesday, February 2.
She predicted that they would only be able to grow again once activities return to normal. On this basis, pandemic handling is a vital key to economic recovery.
The business sectors that are still lagging behind include:
- Sea transport
- River transport
- Air transport
- Railway transport
- Education services
- Other financial services
- Other services
- Machinery industry
- Other Manufacturing
- Leather industry
- Footwear industry
- Apparel textile industry
- Car and motorcycle sales industry
- Paper industry
- Wood industry
- Cement industry
- Tobacco industry
- Oil and gas coal industry
- Rubber industry
- Electronic metal goods industry
- Oil and gas mining
- Conveyance industry
- Gas procurement
- Food and beverage service
- Warehousing
- Accommodation industry
“KSSK together with the government, ministries, and other institutions will take the necessary measures to maintain an equitable and sustainable economic recovery,” said Sri.
She acknowledged that each business sector has its different speed to recover and that depends on business activities and the impact of the pandemic on the sector, which is then assessed as a scarring effect.
KSSK, Sri Mulyani went on, would continue to study this effect and resume policies to overcome this scarring effect while overseeing the national economic recovery.
