Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has awarded Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M)’s wholly owned subsidiary, Keppel Shipyard, an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the 225,000-b/d P-80 floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel. Scheduled for completion in first-half 2026, P-80 is the second FPSO Keppel O&M will build for deployment by Petrobras at Buzios field in presalt Santos basin offshore Brazil. The first, the 180,000-b/d P-78, is under construction now and expected to start production in the field’s 2,000-m water depths during 2025.
P-80, the ninth FPSO to be stationed at Buzios, will have water injection capacity of 250,000 b/d, 12 million cu m/day of gas processing capacity, and 2-million bbl of crude oil storage. Petrobras plans a total of 12 FPSO for Buzios and to be producing 2 million boe/d from the field by the end of the decade.
Fabrication of P-80’s topside modules, which weigh about 47,000 tonnes in total, will occur at Keppel O&M yards in Singapore, China, and Brazil, with integration and commissioning to be completed in Singapore. Construction of the hull and accommodations will be carried out by CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering Pte. Ltd. in China. Keppel O&M will also undertake offshore commissioning when P-80 arrives at Buzios.
Petrobras plans 14 subsea wells for use with P-80, seven producers and seven injectors.
The EPC contract is worth $2.9 billion and structured on progressive milestone payments. It will be cash-flow neutral during its execution lifecycle and will add more than S$4 billion to Keppel O&M’s orderbook.
Both P-80 and P-78 will incorporate green features such as carbon capture and reinjection into the reservoir for storage (CCUS). Both FPSOs are designed to maximize carbon reinjection and minimize gas flaring, according to Keppel. In addition to CCUS, P-80 will also be outfitted with energy recovery systems for thermal energy, waste heat, and gas, as well as seawater deaeration to reduce both consumption of fuel and the carbon emissions of the vessel, Keppel said.
BrasFELS, Keppel O&M’s yard in Angra dos Reis, Brazil, is currently undertaking integration and fabrication work for two other FPSOs that will operate in Sepia field and Buzios field.
Petrobras earlier this year awarded Subsea 7 SA an engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, and pre-commissioning contract for the eighth phase of Buzios development (OGJ Online, May 27, 2022).
Buzios began production in 2018, eight years after discovery. At discovery, Petrobras expected to produce as much as 3 billion boe from the field.
