Keep a Work Diary to Minimize Mistakes and Document Successes

A diary or log of the day's events at the office can provide a valuable record of the things that went well, mistakes you made and how you addressed them, and successes worth highlighting in your next performance review.

Use your work diary to jot down errors that you made and how they happened so you won't make the same mistake twice. A diary can also be useful to document your on-going responsibilities and successes, in case your manager comes calling or asks you to do a self-review. It can also serve as a good way to vent and document frustrating days or events for review when you've calmed down.

Plus, you can review your log later for perspective on your professional growth and to reflect on your achievements over time. Do you keep a running log of the workday? How do you document your successes or failures? Leave your tips in the comments.
