This is a loose retelling of a DW story I wrote in about 2012, with a steadfast intention of e-mailing it to Steven Moffat, and a faint hope that it would be featured in season 7.
That clearly never happened.
But nevermind.
So here it. With some things added, some things subtracted, and some thing changed completely.
(e.g. it is a season 5 rather than 7, with Amy instead of Clara, sometime(y-wimey) between Cold Blood and Pandorica)

This is more than a dream come true: she can finally start repaying her debt in earnest. And there are better mysteries to solve now: How did she slip into the universe of Doctor Who? Why was she there? And why, when this was the first time they’d ever met, did the Doctor recognize her?
She is in for a lot of adventures, a lot of meeting favorite characters, a lot of meeting least favorite enemies, and most of all – both of them are in for a lot of healing.

The Doctor wanted the Time War to end and to go back to the fun that was adventuring through time with companions, that's all the Doctor wanted. As if by a miracle, they did. The Time War was now erased from time itself, Gallifrey was safe once again, and the fun adventures will begin again.
But if they knew that they would be sitting in their rooms, holding the tattered remains of a once colorful scarf, a bleached coat that once held the rainbow, or a snapped umbrella missing its question mark, would they have taken that decision?

The Doctor halted like he’d been stabbed, just meters from the Tardis and only a light walk from Rose. She hadn’t seen him or the ship; she was making her way across the parking lot as though some unseen force were constantly pushing her back at every angle. All alone. Soon enough she’d pass him, heading for the street.
But she didn’t make it very far after he’d spotted her.
Right in front of him, the wobbly figure got wobblier, and then just—stopped. She stopped moving at all. There was nobody else around; nothing much to look at but the snow, and she wasn’t looking at that. She was staring straight ahead with her mouth slightly open, and not in a shocked way. The Doctor’s eyes trailed from her bare head to her barer feet, taking in the problem(s) in milliseconds. -13°C. Walking into the wind. Exposed skin on her legs, feet, hands, throat, and most of her face. Only the one overcoat.
His body and mouth were moving before he let himself think any further.
