Final Fantasy XIII might be the most hated Final Fantasy game in a long time. However Final Fantasy XIII does have a few good ideas and fantastic game play.
In this retrospective review Ryatta looks at the game with the whole Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Saga in mind as well as the localisation changes that were made and highly unnecessary.
While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.
Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."
FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.
I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.
I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.
i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.
i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.
but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.
but i like 13-2 more :)
i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy
XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!
I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.
Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5
Square Enix Blog: "How do you compose iconic songs that help define a legacy? We speak to legendary composer Masashi Hamauzu about his work on Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XIII, and Final Fantasy VII Remake, and how to make unforgettable music."
Despite a lot of hate XIII got, I really loved it. The story and narrative were amazing, the development of characters throughout the story was really well written. The combat was fast paced, and many fights actually had some difficulty to them. The only complaint I could have is that it was going from point A to point B the whole time. Although whereas I loved XIII, I absolutely despised the sequels, which were just milking XIII, just like X-2 ruined X.
I'm writing a review on xiii currently also. And a blog focusing on its soundtrack and why I feel its a chipped gem of a game that deserves more credit! Its not the best game ever or even a top 5 Ff title... bit its still enjoyable and a solid 8/10. Its villain was poor and it lacked a proper narrative which had you absolutely hooked, but it had loads of positives. I'll post up my review on N4G soon. And blog, for those interested :)
- Story had the potential to be good. I like the setting of Gran Pulse or Cocoon and the myth of Fal'cie (it reminds me a bit of Espher from FF VI). BUT that potential ruined by unmemorable characters, villains, and dialogue.
- Gameplay had the potential to be good. Input two-three-or more command in one turn is a good idea because it made the battle more fast paced. The crystarrium system that resembles a lot of Sphere Grid from FF X also still fun to manage. BUT they made a lot of unnecessary decision such as:
* Party leader death means game over
* Can't switch over to other character in battle and must rely on that unresponsive A.I (ugh!)
* No mini games
* Exploring is almost non-existant. Funnily some people tried to compare it with X but X got a lot to explore such as finding Al-bheds, secret summons, etc.
- Music had some memorable track and i loved the battle theme. But overall it really lacking compare to other main FF. Not hearing victory fanfare in the end of battle also made the experience a bit dull.
The only thing SE nailed it is graphic. Yes it's amazing but that doesn't enough to make it as memorable as other main FF, including FF XII.
Personally i gave it a 6.5-7/10. But it could be higher if it's a new IP or not a main FF.
I love FF-XIII though it has its flaws,I was playing it again last night. The story is bizzare & the villain is lame, but the battle system is fun & chaotic at times, love the soundtrack & the production including graphics are top notch.I like Lightning because of her being a bad ass but the character is over exposed now due to the 2 lame sequels & even putting her in FF-XIV.
