This is an initially epistolary (say that three times fast!) everyone lives AU with off screen mpreg (sort of, mind the tags) and lots of gratuitously cute childish misspellings, at first at least (sorry in advance).
Starring Thorin who never knew he actually always wanted to be a history teacher, but always knew he wanted to be a father. Herein lies lots of lore and a healthy sprinkling of both fanon and headcanon, so please don't assume I know what I'm talking about!
These letters begin 19 years after the Battle of the Five Armies. Bilbo stayed long enough to be sure Thorin and the Company would survive, but not long enough to actually talk about what happened, heaven forbid. He allowed Gandalf to smuggle him away after an unfortunately confusing conversation with Balin, thinking he had been banished from Erebor and forbidden from all contact with dwarves. He left knowing he would never return, but not knowing he carried with him a treasure of his own.
Inspired after reading Merciless by silverneko9lives0 when I thought, but what if Thorin had gotten Frodo's letters? Not necessary to read that first, but it's a lovely work, so please do!
