'Working on Charmed was like high school:' Alyssa Milano says there were 'rough days' with co-star Shannen Doherty

For eight dramatic seasons, they starred as three good witches, protecting the innocent against evil.

But it seems that co-stars Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano may not have always seen eye to eye on the set of it TV show Charmed.

During an interview with Bravo's Andy Cohen on his Watch What Happens Live! show on Tuesday,  Alyssa likened working on the show to being like 'high school'.

'Holly and Shannen were best friends for like 10 years before the show started, so it was very much sort of like high school,' she told the talk show host. 'I would hope that in our thirties it wouldn't be like that anymore.'

'High school is over,' laughed Cohen.

'I never went to a high school because I was tutored on the set, but I imagine it would have been a lot like that,' Alyssa responded.

Alyssa, who played Phoebe Halliwell for the duration of the show which ended in 2006, was also asked about Shannen's departure after just three seasons.

'We never really found out what happened,' she said. 'I can tell you that we were on the air with her for three years, and there were definitely some rough days.'

Despite the drama, Alyssa added that working on the show was 'the best job I've ever had in my life. Certainly a learning experience.'

Shannen played witchy sister Prue until 2001 when the character was killed by a demon.

But Alyssa's co-stars were not in complete agreement with her assessment of the show.

Combs, who now stars on ABC drama Pretty Little Liars, took to Twitter to protest, writing: 'Working on Charmed was nothing like high school. I went to high school. It was a very important job to me and always will be.'

'Yeah, agreed, considering it helped me support my family and pay for my dad's medical issues, but everyone has their opinion and views,' added Shannen via her Twitter account.

However, the ex Beverly Hills 90210 star reiterated that she had taken no offence at Alyssa's comments, later tweeting to a fan that she thought her former co-star did a 'great job' during her talk show appearance. 'That show can be tricky,'  she added.

In a final effort to put the matter to rest, she added another later tweet: 'OK, gang, there's no drama. Let's not feed into it.'

Alyssa later tried to placate her former co-stars, tweeting Coombs: 'You're lovely... My best to the family! Mwah! And my parents send their love to you!'
