Summary

Derek's voice is low, soothing. The warm water and the smell of violets slowly tease the tension out of Stiles' muscles. His eyelids flutter for one blissful moment before he remembers. He jerks up, water sloshing over the edge of the tub, and says, "Don't let me fall asleep, Derek, please."
"Okay," Derek says, his eyes wide. "Just - it's okay, I'll keep you awake, I promise."
Stiles gets settled, leaning back again. He chews his bottom lip, just enough to hurt, to keep him awake and anchored to this moment in time.
He knows, more than anything, that Derek can handle any threat that comes for them. He has nothing but faith and trust in Derek and the strength of their pack. But that's not to say that he has faith in himself. Sure, he has magic. But his magic comes from his bond with Derek.
Without Derek, Stiles is nothing.
Derek will survive this new threat to Beacon Hills, Stiles is certain. But he doesn't know if he can do this again.

Trouble seemed to find him, and his parents were already used to it.
But let's rewind.
It all started when Stiles's father was offered a job in the quiet town of Beacon Hills. The pay was better, the benefits were excellent, and he would be promoted to sheriff. But he was hesitant to take it because it would mean uprooting his family from their home in LA, in a neighborhood where they felt they belonged. Claudia Stilinksi, Stiles's mother, was elated at the news. Despite leaving her family and friends, she understood what this would mean for her husband. Stiles, on the other hand, wasn't the happiest. The move would be disastrous for him. It was challenging for him to make friends, and relocating meant that he had to start from scratch. He did not want to move, but Stiles was smart enough to know how good it would be for the family. So he swallowed his fears and doubts and told his parents what they wanted to hear.
Stiles never expected his life to do a complete 180 and now he's questioning all he's ever know.

Derek grinned, tossing the crumpled paper into the bin over his shoulder without looking, and sidled closer smelling of curiosity and attraction. He lowered his voice conspiratorially even though they were the only ones in there.
“What are you?”
Stiles sighed and straightened up to his full nearly 6'3", gazing down into the werewolf’s eyes as if searching for some kind of assurance. It wasn’t forbidden to tell or anything, but he’d never done so before and wasn't certain that it was a good idea. If it’d be a whole thing with the Hales or make the cocky beta that he’d been stupidly crushing on run the other way.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” Derek said emphatically, his face growing serious for a few moments before breaking into a grin again. “Not even if you’re a sweet little rabbit or something. But you’re not a bouncing bunny boy, are you?”
Stiles bared his teeth and showed a hint of fang. “No.”
