Series 3 HD TIVO... What TIVO was meant to be from the Start
Need a Tivo upgrade?? Start here first. with upgraded harddrives in them 1TB plus and the option to add external storage. This is what Tivo was meant to be. with Dual tuners OTA HD TV is a great option if you live close to HD stations and the ability to record 2 shows and watch a third is a big plus. They are light-years ahead of the series 1-2 models but still have the familiar TiVo interface that you know so well. Old boxes that are good, but unsupported by TiVo
These boxes are out of support from TiVo. This particular one came in functional shape, but I bought it for parts to keep my lifetime support box (bought in 2009) running (it's power supply failed). In some ways these series 3 boxes do more than the current Bolt boxes: both OTA and Cable.Verified purchase: Yes

Exclusive feature.
There is a feature that most people don't use and most people don't even know about, which is the ability to use the 1X fast forward and still see close captioning. This is invaluable when you want to see what's being said but don't want to slog through in real time. I use this feature for judge's comments and parts of my soap opera. Solved my TiVo power supply problem
My TiVo died suddenly - no light, etc. TiVo said a flashing light would indicate a hard drive issue and no light at all could be a power supply issue. They recommended a supplier who would replace and install the power supply for a premium price. I took a chance on this vendor and the power supply at half the price and am very pleased. Of course, it remains to be seen how long it will last, but it's been working for at least a couple of weeks now and I expect that to continue for a reasonable time.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Best TiVo
This Series 3 HD is the best of all the TiVo boxs, in my experience. I have used the TiVo DVR since the company began, upgrading as a new series came out. Each of the newer models were purchased and installed and soon after uninstalled. Back went the series 3. You may prefer the more complicated DVR. If you want a simple to use DVR where it is easy to find and record your shows, this is the one I recommend. Easy and fun to use
I've owned several of these units. This specific unit is no longer supported or available through TiVo. They now have more advanced units available now but I really love this one. Provides both antenna and cable tuners, records HD for two channels simultaneously while playing back a previous recording. Hard disk is original equipment and holds only 21 hours of recordings, but a larger hard drive is easy to swap in. Lifetime service works.
