John would often wonder if Sherlock was picking up on his attraction to him. If he was, he was hiding it so well. Then again, maybe if he was anywhere near as good at deduction as Sherlock was, maybe it really was blatantly obvious.
Damn him, the man who could read most everyone else but was unable to be read in turn.
And maybe it was for the best. Sherlock was a sociopath after all and not one to care about romance whatsoever. John knew this. It probably wasn’t even worth telling him how he felt, only to get shot down.

Summary
John Watson is a miner in the Welsh town of Senghenydd, trying to overcome the trauma of a recent pit collapse which killed several of his friends, his sister and during which he, too, and his boss, Greg Lestrade, had a close call. Unable to let it go and feeling ignored by the government, he demands an investigation into the collapse, which he feels could not have occured by natural means. He knows how risky it is to draw attention to their plight in the current political climate and is faced with constant disappointment, until Sherlock Holmes shows up.
