WNY Flash lose to Houston again

Staff report

A game after defeating the defending National Women's Soccer League champions, the Western New York Flash lost to the expansion Houston Dash for the second time this season Wednesday.

Teresa Noyola scored the winner on a penalty kick in 64th minute and the Flash fell 2-1 at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Adriana Martin tallied the lone WNY goal on a chip to the far post in the 62nd minute. McCall Zerboni sent a pass in to Martin, who had entered the game less than 10 minutes earlier and kicked the ball over the head of Dash goalie Erin McLeod for the equalizer.

Houston didn't waste much time regaining the lead. Flash goaltender Lydia Williams extended for a save on Kealia Ohai's rip from the top of the box but WNY defender Jasmyne Spencer fouled Kaylyn Kyle on the ensuing corner kick to give Houston a penalty kick.

Noyola, who subbed in following Martin's goal, buried the shot in the lower left corner.

Tiffany McCarty gave the Dash a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute. She gathered a loose ball after a tackle, turned around a defender and converted a sliding shot past defender Kathryn Williamson for her third goal in the last two games.

The win gives Houston, which defeated WNY 2-1 in Rochester, its first home points of the season.
