After Arthur disobeyed his father and retrieved the Mortaeus flower for Merlin's cure, Arthur's frantic pleading to save Merlin led to a misunderstanding that actually convinced Uther to take the flower to Gaius.
Now all Arthur has to do is explain to Merlin why Uther thinks they are lovers.
And while Uther is supportive of the relationship, he requires it kept secret. But in his paranoia, Uther misinterprets every innocent interaction between the two as something far more intimate, to the embarrassment of everyone involved.
And then the knights begin showing up...

With the new flick getting more positive buzz than Arthur had expected, it's starting to look like he just might write his own ticket into a high-visibility West End role, even as he tries to rework his treatment for the stage. Merlin, meanwhile, is adapting to the increased popularity that comes with being married to a Hollywood megastar, even as his own star is on the rise, with the Proms and a new world tour. Of course, all of this comes with the new challenge of being apart more than they have since they got together. A passerby sabotages the return journey, leading to an upset in the course of events for everyone. Season 4 alternate timeline, beginning with the events of "The Darkest Hour" Part 1. Inspired by my fascination with this season and love for the core 4 and Lancelot, and a load of what-ifs.

Arthur has known about his destiny to unite Albion as the Once and Future King since he stumbled on that ridiculously large Dragon his father had imprisoned under the castle when he was a young child. Now, all he has to do is find Emrys - his prophesized magical partner, navigate becoming the Crown Prince of Camelot and his father's hatred of all things magic, and survive the frankly insane amount of attacks against him by angry sorcerers. If only his idiot manservant could be on time to work for once.

An ambitious canon rewrite of Merlin season one from Arthur's POV, if he was already pretty cool with magic from the start but was still just as oblivious to Merlin as he was in the show.

“I’m leaving.” Merlin says, because this situation already cost him his Duolingo streak, and he’s too tired to deal with Arthur when the food Gaius is serving him looks like it belongs on a list of war crimes committed by the Canadian soldiers.
“Where to?” His mentor asks, and Merlin shrugs, before going to his room and packing his bag.
“India. Gaius, I have decided I don’t give a damn, especially not when having to eat that bland food. I’ll be back in three months, make sure Arthur doesn’t die when I’m out.”
“Merlin!” And maybe, if he was younger and didn’t travel back to the past last month, he would’ve actually cared about the ‘eyebrow of disapproval’.
Or, a 1500yo Merlin gets zapped to the past during his vacation to Cuba. You’d think he’s happy to see Arthur again. He’s not.

Giving him a disgusted look, Fit Bloke sneers, “Get up, you look ridiculous,” before briskly walking away in the opposite direction, his leg connecting with Merlin’s shoulder and knocking him over again.

Angsty Mercelot where Mercelot have been secret lovers for a while now, and then canon happens and (here is where it’s different-) then Merlin suddenly learning he’s pregnant (because come on, he’s a powerful sorcerer and also I adore the mpreg drama- and I also love babies and children in general, sorry Merlin) and as he mourns Lancelot, he still has to raise their kid as well.
