Paranormal Corner: A spiritual resolution

It’s a new year and while most readers are hoping to become wealthier, healthier and happier in 2013, I have a different resolution in mind.

I want to make 2013 the year I take my passions and merge them, to make a mark on the world.

First, what are my passions? Writing, of course, both for the newspaper and for myself, with three published fiction books so far; and the paranormal.

If you have been following “Paranormal Corner,” you already know my first paranormal experience occurred when I was just a small child. Since then, I have wanted to find the truth behind the afterlife.

Now, as a member of Jersey Unique Minds Paranormal Society (JUMPS), based in Salem County, I have an opportunity to put the two together and hopefully open other people's minds to the possibility of life after death.

The first investigation I will participate in this year with JUMPS is a follow-up investigation at a private residence in Pennsville Township.

Doug Hogate Jr., founder of JUMPS, said the last time the team entered the house — which was in July 2012 — several strange incidents occurred.

According to Hogate, a fellow JUMPS team member was scratched by an unseen entity and, near the same time, a digital voice recorder captured an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) which clearly states, “Kill her.”

I’ve always said if I hear a threatening EVP or a disembodied voice that tells me to “Get out,” I’m outta there. So, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens around this possibly negative presence.

The next investigation will be at Barrett’s Plantation House in Mannington.

When I attended the Historic Ghost Tour of Salem County, presented by JUMPS and Revolution Tours, Inc., I experienced my first encounter at this "haunted" bed and breakfast.

While touring the historic house with my trustee K2 meter (used to detect fluctuations in natural electromagnetic fields), homeowner Gay Schneeman told the story about how a house guest had previously encountered a little boy in the room where we were currently standing.

“I was having a Christmas party and my friend’s husband was sitting in here relaxing,” Schneeman said, noting the man rode a Harley Davidson motorcycle and didn’t believe in the paranormal. “He said he saw a little boy come down the staircase, cross in front of the fireplace and then disappear.”

Just minutes before Schneeman told that story, my K2 meter had registered a large electromagnetic hit, indicating that, possibly, that little boy was on the same path, and I happened to catch evidence of him.

I’m not sure if my K2 sensed the little boy at Barrett’s Plantation or not, but on my return trip, I’ll be taking some, what we call, “trigger objects,” such as a ball, toy car or other items that may draw the boy to me.

Hopefully, in 2013 I’ll make some new friends, including the little boy who possibly lives at Barrett’s Plantation.
