T1 - Cubical Drift has announced that the KickStarter for Planets³ has exceeded its initial funding target of $250,000.
“We are incredibly grateful to every backer we have for believing in our dreams of a Cubical world. The kind words, encouraging each other and helping us to get featured on websites all over the world has helped us to fund. Without you guys, there would be no Planets³. The love for our game is both very heartwarming and endearing – we can’t thank you enough,” said Michel Thomazeau, Planets³ Project Director.
Right of the bat I (Robin Ek, The Gaming Ground) would like to point out that even though I´m not a huge fan "Minecraft" (it´s not my kind of game really). I still found a lot of gameplay value and joy in Cubical Drift´s open world block-based sci-fi RPG "Stellar Overload". And this is the reason why.
Today Cubical Drift are excited to reveal that Planets³ is now called Stellar Overload! Stellar Overload's adventures take place in a universe that consists entirely of 25cm³ blocks. The blocks can be combined in a variety of ways to build beautiful objects, elegant structures and landscape elements of all shapes and sizes.
New name seems a little generic. Planets³ had a nicer ring to it
Really looking forward to this game though, it seems interesting enough
Ah, Planets³. I still remember that game. Funny, I always wondered whatever happened to that game. Now I know =)
As of Update #48, Cubical Drift have introduced multiplayer support within the alpha, along with a slew of optimisations. The dedicated server (64bit only) is available to download now, so you can host for you and your original backer friends, although functionality and customisation is extremely limited. The dedicated server will eventually be developed more intricately.
