Remove Rust Spots from Knives and Silverware with Lemon Juice

Even stainless steel silverware and cooking knives can start to show a few spots of rust here and there. This is especially common after your silverware (or heaven forbid, your knives) go through the dishwasher a few times. It's not pretty, but there's an easy way to lift those rust stains off: a good soak in lemon juice.

It should go without saying that you shouldn't dishwash your good knives, but if you have a roommate or spouse that does, or they've been soaking in the sink, or you're starting to see those rust spots on your bread knives as well, head to the fridge and grab the lemon juice. Pour some lemon juice into a tall glass, and then soak the knives in the lemon juice for a few minutes. The acid in the lemon juice should help to loosen up the rust, and make it easier to scrub away after you pull them out of the glass.

Granted, this doesn't really reverse the damage, but it does give you your clean knives back—and once they're nice and clean, you can start hand-washing them so they don't develop any new stains. That especially goes for your chef's knives and cooking knives. Have you tried this method? Have a better way to get those rust spots out? Let's hear it in the discussions below.
