Titanfall, The Next Big Competitive Title?

Titanfall has had a lot of hype since 2013, it is believed that this title has the potential to be the next big competitive game. Due to it’s developer team background: Respawn Entertainment, who had worked on previous Call Of Duty titles, the community are hyped and hope to see a new competitive title.

What is your thoughts?

I believe that it has potential, however it is only released on PC and Xbox platforms. This could cause a lot of problems as there is a huge market for those who have a Playstation platform, this would cut sales compared to Call Of Duty, but does this even matter?

The bots in Titanfall are powered by Azure clouds infrastructure network that M$ acquire. they have the power and speed of one million human players and can read anyones game play style after they play 5 or more games, so it read any move you do, the bots have the edge over you and make the game very competitive. /s ( in the voice of nacho men nexican partner) "it's the fu ture"

A. It's already been confirmed that Titanfall won't be on the competitive circuit. Fwiz, a well-known guy at MLG said so.

B. Competitive probably won't work what with the 24 bots in the game throwing off the balancing. This game is made for pubs and pubs only.

It's 100% guaranteed this game is not going to overtake COD popularity, it won't even come remotely close.

Titanfall will suffer the same fate as the Killzone series has on Playstation. It may be fun, or extremely fun, but it's constant comparison to COD will only harm it and keep it from succeeding. If people want to play COD, they play COD, simple as that. The only thing that can replace COD, is another COD.

Titanfall being hyped as some kind of revolutionary COD killer guarantees it's failure, mark my words.

Bomberman had jet packs and pong was the first game in history to feature mechs.
I haven't played Titanfall but from all the footage I've seen, it looks amazing. The gameplay looks refreshing. I know there is nothing new under the sun but on the xbox consoles, this is a unique experience. The mechs and jet packs and CoD resemblance may have been seen before on MS machines, but the experience seems to be brand new. I hope I'm right.

if you do not know, will be playing modes without bots of course, as well as rank style black ops 2 system.
Titanfall is thought to be a competitive game with skill base, Halo has no competitive playlist, as well as competitive, it will be with titanfall

Exactly this isn't LoL, it's a shooter, bots take away from the competitive aspect. I'm sure the game will be fun, but unless there are game modes without bots i doubt it will be MLG worthy.

They aren't bots (bots are meant to replace human players) they are grunts. If you've never played a shooter with grunts, how can you automatically assume that it can't work competitively.

This is a shooter, with MOBA elements.you're are judging it like it's the same as any other shooter.

There are no bots. There is enemy AI, but bots are meant to emulate human players. These AI do not. We don't call the creeps in DOTA bots, and we won't be calling these grunts bots either.

Glad I got my PC so I'm good but I have to admit, it does seem like a crime this game isn't coming out for PlayStation. I could see if Microsoft actually made it, but they just basically paid EA to not release it on PlayStation which seems wrong if you ask me. I'll still be getting this for my PC but I just think it's a damn shame that Microsoft would stoop to low ball tactics like these. It screams of desperation.

Man you are a joke. Are you trying to imply that there is some sort of difference between paying for a 3rd party exclusive and funding a 3rd party exclusive?

Because it's the exact same thing... using $ to make sure that a particular game doesn't show up on another platform.

I'm not doing your homework for you, the list dates back to the ps1.

Hicken logic - "Sony didn't pay for exclusivity, they just agreed to fund the games development, thus guarunteeing the game won't show up on any other platforms."

No, funding a 3rd party exclusive is NOT the same as buying a game's exclusivity. Bayonetta is a perfect example: it's a third party exclusive that only exists because Nintendo funded it. It's fundamentally different from Titanfall, which would have existed with or without being made an exclusive.

I know it hurts you to hear, but there's a large and fundamental difference between buying up the exclusive rights to something, and funding it from the start. That's not even limited to gaming.

But there you go with the Sony Too™ mantra. Could have solved it with a list of games, but no.

Actually, Sony chose not to support this game so blame the crime on them. Sony and MS were approached by Respawn with the request for dedicated servers to be provided by MS and/or Sony.

MS offered Respawn, not EA a solution. Sony did not provide a solution and lost the option to have the game. I guess Yoshida was to busy tweeting that day to come to the rescue.

At that point the exclusivity was only due to Sony not providing dedicated servers, MS then struck a deal with EA to ensure that Sony could not come along after Respawn and MS's servers made the game a success and reap the benefits while putting nothing into the pot.

Here is the quote from Jon Shiring at Respawn:

"I personally talked to both Microsoft and Sony and explained that we need to find a way to have potentially hundreds-of-thousands of dedicated servers at a price point that you can’t get right now. Microsoft realized that player-hosted servers are actually holding back online gaming and that this is something that they could help solve, and ran full-speed with this idea.

The Xbox group came back to us with a way for us to run all of these Titanfall dedicated servers and that lets us push games with more server CPU and higher bandwidth, which lets us have a bigger world, more physics, lots of AI, and potentially a lot more than that!"

That seems pretty fair to me. Sony turned them down and doesn't deserve a kick at the first game. Maybe TitanFall2 in 2017 will come to the PS4.

As far as AI goes and competitive play, AI is not an obstacle at all. It just needs to be accounted for in the scoring. I believe there is also going to be modes without AI.

@Itachi83- Hmm... So Sony has never paid any company for an exclusive? And this deal happened a long time ago before the consoles were even out, so I don't think it was a response to desperation. It's called business.

They've never invested money in bringing a great game soley to their audience *yeah right* This is probably why the entire company is about to go out of business and just laid off 5000 employees, closed 2 divisions and lost a billion dollars.

Sony has had plenty of this party exclusives over the years. Grand theft auto 3, metal gear solid 1,3(timed),4, multiple final fantasy games, multiple kingdom heart games, ratchet and clank, just to name a few.

Sony isn't going out of business, Japan wouldn't be able to afford Sony closing up shop.

The 5k comes from the sold Vaio division. Itvwould have cost them.a lot more to keep that unprofitable division running instead of doing the sensible thing and selling it.

No one is saying titanfall will be a bad game just that the AI aspects may cause it to not be viable competitively. Until the game hits and everyone gets a very good and up close and personal look we won't know.

Bots don't really affect who wins. I tried to rely on killing bots (my team sucked) overall I killed 35 ai and 6 androids and the most pilots everyone killed were 5 and I had 4 and we still lost. Only thing they're good for is deducting time off titan repair status by 2 sec

People saying this game won't be MLG because of BOTS... Umm, have you heard of League of Legends and DOTA? They do the same thing where there are minions on the field to rack up points and are easy targets... Titanfall does the same thing... Can't see why Titanfall won't be competitive.

It's kind of funny, the people who are so judgmental of the game hasn't even laid a finger on the game. The people who have played the game, they love it. I myself don't really pay attention to the bots. But whatever, that's my opinion. This is why I wish IGN would post articles like these. At least you can get decent conversations out of them. This is all out bash anything remotely close Microsoft.
